Call of Duty: Black Ops

I’ve been pretty much playing Call of Duty: Black Ops exclusively since it’s release date last week.  I’m on PS3 and am plagued by the connection problems that seem to be pervasive, but I haven’t let that hold me down.  On Tuesday, a week after release, I hit my first prestige!

Anyway, the game is great.  It fixes a lot of the stuff I detested about Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II.  QUICKSCOPERS are all but gone, thank god.  Sniper rifles just aren’t meant to be used like that…now you have to use them the proper way.  Chopper gunners are still there, and tend to get a lot of kills, but if you’ve got rockets, they’re gone fast…no worries. :)   And the attack dogs are amazing.

One thing I do hate are claymores.  They’re EVERYWHERE.  Don’t get me wrong, I drop ‘em whenever I can, and they usually net me a few kills per game…no effort or skill involved.  On certain maps, grenades and semtex are like rain (Nuketown!).  Sometimes spawn points seem extremely broken–I can’t stand when I kill a guy and he respawns instantly behind me.

Either way, I prefer this game to MW2…and I was fairly well established in MW2.  The maps are beautifully detailed, and most are thoughtfully set up.  If I had to give a rating, it’d probably be 8/10–but could pop up to a 9/10 as soon as a few things are fixed.
